Prospero's plan
From my point of view at the beginning of the story Prospero's main plan was to sabotage and seek revenge on those who wronged him. at the beginning of the story i seen him as just someone who abused the power he held, but it was pretty much built up anger he was trying to release on the people who wronged him. As the story started to end there was a change in prospero's attitude as a whole. In act 5 the dialogue changed as well as prosperos. Him and Ariel actually had a conversation where he would actually listening to what Ariel had to say and what Ariel's opinion was. Si i noticed his attitude changed and i also believe his plan changed over all because he actually started to look at what it was he was doing and he somewhat let that revengeful attitude drift away.

I would have to both agree and disagree with your perspective of Prospero. For starts I would have to agree that Prospero did indeed abuse his power and also Ariel's loyalty to him. I would also agree that in the end Prospero did change his attitude. But instead of his vengeful attitude fading, it was more like he gained a more reasonable perspective. I also do not think Prospero really wanted revenge on those who wronged him. I personally feel like he did want to confront the men who wronged him about their actions, but did not feel the need to get even. Having said this I do appreciate the idea of Prospero being angry or the idea of him wanting revenge because at least a few scenes could be interpreted differently if this was the case.
ReplyDeleteWanting revenge is not the way i would look at Prosperos plans. Rather i would see it more as his acknowledgement that he has been wronged out his Dukedom. I would also like to see you touch base on how Prospero might have hurt himself by immersing in his studies. I will say that I thought it was interesting how you brought up the specific example of the change in relationship between Ariel and Prospero.
